How I work

Policies

These pages explain how I try to keep people safe, what stays private, how sessions and products work, and how to raise a concern. They are written in plain English, for you to read at your own pace.

A working draft — not legal advice

These pages are working drafts for me to review and finish. They are not legal advice, and they are not a finished professional pack. Safeguarding, insurance and data protection should be checked by a qualified person before I rely on them with the people I support.

Where I have not decided something yet, the page says so in a dashed box, rather than inventing a name, a number or a rule.

Who this is for

If you are thinking about one-to-one or group peer support with me, these pages are for you. If you later buy a guide or join a seminar, the digital products page is for that. If you just want to know how I handle information, start with how I handle your information.

What I offer is peer support, held online. It is not therapy, counselling, treatment or diagnosis, and it is not a crisis service. If you need help right now, the free crisis lines are listed on this site — they are free, and they do not go through me.

The pages

  • Safeguarding

What I do if someone may be at serious risk, including if a parent talks about a child.

Who this is for: anyone using sessions, and anyone wondering what I would do with a worry about harm.

    Read safeguarding

  • Confidentiality

What I keep private, where the limits are, and how online sessions are held.

Who this is for: people coming to one-to-one or group support.

    Read confidentiality

  • Terms of support

What peer support is, that it is paid and online, and how sessions are arranged.

Who this is for: people booking or thinking about booking sessions.

    Read terms of support

  • Complaints

How to tell me if something is wrong. Peer support is not regulated like therapy, so concerns come to me first.

Who this is for: anyone who wants to raise a concern about my work.

    Read complaints

  • Records and data

Brief notes I may keep from sessions, and a link to the full privacy notice rather than repeating it.

Who this is for: people in sessions, and anyone asking what I write down.

    Read records and data

  • Digital products

Ebooks, downloads and seminars when they go on sale, including the usual UK cooling-off pointer.

Who this is for: people who may buy a guide or join a seminar. Nothing is on sale yet.

    Read digital products

  • Accessibility

What this website already tries to do, where it has limits, and how to ask for a different format.

Who this is for: anyone using the site who needs it to work a bit differently.

    Read accessibility

Privacy is next door

How I handle messages from the contact form lives on its own page: How I handle your information. The records page adds only what that notice does not already cover.
